The most livable communities have a few things in common: affordability, a sense of community, proximity to employment, ease of transportation, and plenty of things to do. If you are looking to settle in the great state of Texas, you can find all of these factors plus some in the exciting city of San Antonio. Located in the central part of the Lone Star State, San Antonio sits at the southwestern corner of the Texas Triangle metroplex that includes Houston and Dallas. If you’re looking to rent, the options are plentiful. Here is a list of three of my favorite and trendy apartments:
1. Laying Low in “SoBro”
For a long while, the neighborhood of South Broadway was identified primarily by vacant lots and closed up retail outlets. However, change is underway: San Antonio Magazine recently identified South Broadway—aka “SoBro”—as the up and coming place to be as swanky health clubs, high-end restaurants and exciting night life transform this neighborhood back into popularity. In the thick of the action is 1800 Broadway, a property housing the most luxurious urban residences with walkability to all of the new stores and restaurants. Some feature amenities of this complex include:
- Fully-outfitted, modern fitness center
- Mammoth outdoor pool
- Cyber café with iMac stations
- In unit washers and dryers
- Finely-crafted granite countertops
- Easy proximity to local attractions
SoBro is filling up fast. If you want to get in on the ground floor of this burgeoning neighborhood, consider 1800 Broadway.
2. Down by the Riverside
Situated just south of Interstate-35 on the eastern shore of the San Antonio River, the River House apartments offers its active residents prime access to surrounding bike trails, footpaths along the water, and nearby Brackenridge Park. Just a stone’s throw from top-notch restaurants, coffee houses and beer gardens, the River House is only a few minutes from the San Antonio Museum of Art, as well as the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
Offering studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments, this community provides spacious units with high ceilings and lots of closet space. Common amenities include a private dog park, an outdoor dining terrace, fitness center and a tanning deck.
3. On the Rim
Near the junction of Interstate-10 and the Charles Williams Anderson Loop, Avana at the Rim is ideally situated for shoppers, diners, athletes, and fun-seekers. Close to major retail outlets like La Cantera and The Rim, residents have easy access to all of the well-known stores, such as Nordstrom, Nieman Marcus, Macy’s and Target, and some unique local boutiques, as well. Restaurants spanning the range of cuisines from Chinese to Mexican to French are also easily accessible. If you itch to hit the links, three professionally designed golf courses are all in the immediate vicinity.
With apartments as large as three bedrooms, Avana offers full-size washers and dryers plus built-in microwaves and bookshelves in all units. Kitchens and entry halls are done in ceramic tile while some units even have private balconies and sun rooms. All residents may use the outdoor gourmet kitchen, sand volleyball court, fitness center and children’s playground.
