Round-up of the Best Ways to Celebrate Your Move to San Antonio

After the dust settles from your move to San Antonio, celebrate being home in your new city by getting out and exploring all the things that make San Antonio a wonderful place to live. Here’s a round-up of my favorite ways to celebrate being a new San Antonionan:

1. Take a Cruise

While hopping a boat cruise at the San Antonio Riverwalk may be a popular tourist activity, the locals love their famed Riverwalk just as much. From meandering boat, take in the sites and aromas of shops and restaurants along the banks of the river. The cruise lasts a little over half an hour and will familiarize you with popular spots such as the San Antonio Museum of Art and the Pearl Brewery Complex.

2. Smell the Roses

Enjoy some fresh, flower-filled air with a self-guided tour through the San Antonio Botanical Gardens, which feature classical, formal gardens with wisteria, tulips and snapdragons as well as gardens with a Texan twist such as the Texas native trail lined with redbud, agarita, succulents and cacti. If you’re a bird watcher, you can enjoy guided bird walks every third Sunday of the month.

3. Eat Local

To fully experience life like a San Antonio native, buy fresh, locally-grown ingredients from a local farmer’s market. The Pearl Farmers Market is open on Saturdays and the Quarry Farmers & Ranchers Market is open on Sundays.

4. Chill Out in a Cave

Experience the thrill of being lowered by a rope through a well shaft 160 feet into the cool, damp depths of the Natural Bridge Caverns. A guide will come along and guide you through exploring the caverns, pointing out features along the way. For those who aren’t quite that adventurous, you might opt for the educational tour instead.

5. Pedal it Out

San Antonio is one of the many cities around the country that has a bike share program where you can borrow a bike for the day. Pedal around the city enjoying local cuisine and sights like the San Antonio River or the Japanese Tea Gardens. You can even take your bike shopping at the farmer’s market and the shops at La Cantera.

6. Get A Dose of Texas History

Opened in 1926, the Witte Museum has long captivated visitors with exhibits focused Texas history and art. This year, the museum is expanding to include additional room for special exhibits, an interactive health learning experience, and a new garden. This is the perfect place to come to learn more about Texas’ past as you put down your roots here.

7. Drink Up

Once you’ve experience a great day exploring your new city, you might be ready for a night on the town to unwind and celebrate your move. The Menger Bar is part of the City Lights Ghost tour, and is touted as one of the historical bars that Teddy Roosevelt liked to frequent.

8. Enjoy a Pint

Experience a Waxy O’Connor’s Irish Pub directly on the San Antonio River. This is a great spot to relax after a leisurely stroll along the Riverwalk. You’ll be able to sit outside and see how the life of the river changes from day to evening while washing down some fish and chips with a pint of Guinness.

Congratulations on completing your move! Hope you get out and enjoy this great city.
